about

This is the second of four songs by Gavin Parker composed in a Bob-Dylanesque style, which we performed at the New Troubadours and recorded later in my flat along the road in Chepstow House

lyrics

I dreamed of old Walt Whitman,
and what he might have said to me
as we sipped our double bourbons
underneath the holly tree

I'd ask him frank, and personal
how he thought the world should be.
He'd smile, and turn his head, and say
"we'll have to wait and see"

"Oh Walt," I said, "sometimes I feel
I'm trapped, and I'm not me."
"Don't worry son, we've many parts,
just learn to let things be"

"Their lives are complicated,
but the truth is plain to me.
The answer lies, within my eyes,
it's called simplicity"
