Der Herr ist mein Hirte; mir wird nichts mangeln. (The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.) Er weidet mich auf grüner Aue und führet mich zum frischen Wasser. (He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me the quiet waters by.) Er erquicket meine Seele; (My soul he doth restore again) er führet mich auf rechter Straße um seines Namens willen. (and me to walk doth make in the paths of righteousness, even for his own Name's sake.) Und ob ich schon wanderte im finstern Tal, fürchte ich kein Unglück; (Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale, yet will I fear no ill) denn du bist bei mir, dein Stecken und dein Stab trösten mich. (For Thou art with me; and thy rod and staff my comfort still.) Du bereitest vor mir einen Tisch im Angesicht meiner Feinde. (My table Thou hast furnished in the presence of my foes) Du salbest mein Haupt mit Öl und schenkest mir voll ein. (My head Thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows.) Gutes und Barmherzigkeit werden mir folgen mein Leben lang, (Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me) und ich werde bleiben im Hause des Herrn immerdar. (and in God's house for evermore my dwelling place shall be.)
