All creatures now are merry minded, The shepherd's daughters playing, the nymphs are falalaing. Yon bugle was well winded. At Oriana's presence each thing smileth. The flow'rs themselves discover, Birds over her do hover, Music the time beguileth, See where she comes, with flow'ry garlands crowned, Queen of all queens reknowned. Then sang the shepherds and nymphs of Diana, "Long live fair Oriana!"

It was a lover and his lass, With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino, That o'er the green corn-fields did pass, In the spring time, the only pretty ring time, When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding; Sweet lovers love the spring. Between the acres of the rye, With a hey, and a ho, and a hey nonino, These pretty country folks would lie, In the spring time, the only pretty ring time, When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding; Sweet lovers love the spring.

He is handsome and fine, my husband is, There were two gossiping women in the village, Saying one to the other, do you have a good husband? He doesn`t scold me, or beat me either. He does the chores, he feeds the chickens And I just enjoy myself. Really you have to laugh to hear the cries of the chicks and hens: Co, co, co, co, dae, little flirt, what`s this? He is handsome and fine, my husband is, (translation (c) D W Solomons)

Fine knacks for ladies, cheap, choice, brave and new! Good pennyworths - but money cannot prove. I keep a fair but for the fair to view. A beggar may be liberal of love. Though all my wares be trash, the heart is true, The heart is true. Great gifts are guiles and look for gifts again; My trifles come as treasures from my mind. It is a precious jewel to be plain. Sometimes in shell the orient's pearl we find. Of others take a sheaf, of me a grain. Of me a grain. Within this pack pins, points, laces and gloves, And divers toys fitting a country fair; But in my heart, where duty serves and loves, Turtles and twins, court's brood, a heavenly pair. Happy the heart that thinks of no removes! Of no removes

Hear my prayer o Lord and let my crying come unto Thee

Music, all pow'rful o'er the human mind! Can still each mental storm, each tumult calm; Soothe anxious care on sleepless couch reclin'd, And e'en fierce anger's furious rage disarm. At her command, the varous passions lie, She stirs to battle, or she lulls to peace, Melts the charm'd soul to thrilling ecstasy, And bids the jarring world's harsh clangour cease. Soft thro' the dell the dying strains retire, Then burst majestic, in the varied swell, Now, breathe melodious as the Grecian lyre, Or on the ear, in sinking cadence dwell. Oh! surely Harmony from Heav'n was sent, To cheer the soul when tir'd with human strife; To soothe the wayward heart by sorrow rent, And soften down the rugged road of life.

O happy, happy, happy, happy fair Your eyes are loadstars and your tongue sweet air More tuneable than lark to shepherd’s ear, When wheat is green, when hawthorn buds appear, more tuneable than lark to shepherd’s ear,

Breathe soft, ye winds ! ye waters, gently flow ; Shield her, ye trees — ye flowers, around her grow ; Ye swains, I beg you pass in silence by, My love in yonder vale asleep doth lie.

Locus iste 01:53
Locus iste a Deo factus est, inaestimabile sacramentum, irreprehensibilis est. This place was made by God, a priceless sacrament; it is without reproach.

Wondrous cool, thou woodland quiet, Thee a thousand times I greet. Far away from rush and riot, Ah, they soothing sounds are sweet. Dreaming on thy mossy carpet, here is rest and peace. Tis as if, beneath thy shadows all my cares and troubles cease. Song of flutes across the valley, floating faint and far away Fills my heart with mystic longing for the beauty they portray. Rock me in thy woodland cradle, still my every care. Breathing joy and sweet contentment on thy fragrant, scented air. Here mid simple needs and pleasures, Be thou still, my beating heart! Peace and silence hover round me, Care and bitterness depart. Sing ye sweet, ye woodland voices, Sing your slumbersong! Cares and worries be forgotten, all ye troubles, get you gone.

Ubi Caritas 02:05
Ubi Caritas et Amor, Deus ibi est [Where holy and earthly love are, there is God, ] Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor. [Christ's love has brought us into one, ] Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur. [let us exult and rejoice in him ] Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum [let us fear and love the living God, ] Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero [and prize him above all things with our heart. ]

The Snow 05:32
O snow, which sinks so light, Brown earth is hid from sight O soul, be thou as white as snow, O snow, which falls so slow, Dear earth quite warm below; O heart, so keep thy glow Beneath the snow. O snow, in thy soft grave Sad flow'rs the winter brave; O heart, so sooth and save, as does the snow. The snow must melt, must go, Fast, fast as water flow. Not thus, my soul, O sow Thy gifts to fade like snow. O snow, thou'rt white no more, Thy sparkling too, is o'er; O soul, be as before, Was bright the snow. Then as the snow all pure, O heart be, but endure; Through all the years full sure, Not as the snow.

about

The dwsChorale (a one-man multitrack choir) has performed many works from the early, renaissance, romantic and modern periods. This selection comprises some favourite tracks from this output - mainly secular, but with a sprinkling of spirituality. The words of Walmisley's piece "Music all powerful" just begins to sum it up:
Music has power to uplift or soothe the soul, to send us to war or to love, to religion (Locus Iste) or to fun (Il est bel et bon), to an appreciation of nature (Wondrous Cool), to the simplicity of purity (The Snow).

The performer in this "choir" (David W Solomons) is a countertenor who has sung in many concert halls, churches and cathedrals in England over the past 35 years and has come to know all of these works from within: the insights achieved from liturgical and concert performances and from conductors' comments at rehearsals over the years has informed his performances here and have led to a unity of expression combined with a multiplicity of inspiration.
